Lopsided Moon Haiku

lopsided moon ...
eyes fixed on my wife
straddling me

FYI: This haiku could be read as a sequel and a prequel to the following ones respectively:

butterflies mating
my wife's hand made to fit
inside my palm

And

beads of sweat
between my wife's breasts
yet this impulse ...

Added:

slanted moonlight
slow, slow curving of her breast
into my dream

Added:

a box of letters
in dusty attic light
I recover
my young self once caught
in someone's love bonfire

Added:

a queue for gas
out of the blue call answered
by tree swallow song

FYI: A small and striking songbird, the tree swallow is renowned for its acrobatic flight and dazzling plumage. It features glossy, iridescent blue-green upperparts that gleam in the sunlight.

Added:

a white raven
back and forth, back and forth
distant sirens

FYI: White ravens are exceptionally rare in the wild—occurring in roughly 1 in 30,000 birds. North America's two main hotspots for these sightings include:

1 Vancouver Island, British Columbia: The coastal area around Qualicum Beach and Parksville is widely considered the unofficial "White Raven Capital".

2 Anchorage, Alaska: White ravens are occasional, viral sensations in Anchorage.

Added:

sunlit hillside
a tumbling waterfall
of scarlet

Added:

time to live
with what remains ...
blossom rain

The Winter of Our Discontent

Its edges browned with age, another photograph, long buried beneath piles of boxes, has come to light in recent days.

His eyes meet the camera head-on. His hand rests at the curve of a young girl’s hip.

the man, once a prince
hid behind purple curtains ...
now cuffed in cold steel

FYI: This sociopolitically conscious haibun is inspired by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, being arrested by UK police over Jeffrey Epstein ties.

The title, "The Winter of Our Discontent," is a famous allusion to the opening lines of William Shakespeare’s Richard III: Now is the winter of our discontent / Made glorious summer by this sun of York

For more analysis of this allusive title, see To the Lighthouse: The Impact of an Allusive Title.

inspired by a viral social media prompt:The U.K. just arrested a royal. Is the U.S. capable of the same?

The Next One

My boy lines the dominoes along the coffee table’s edge, their lacquered backs blinking ivory in the lamplight, and nudges the first with his forefinger.

In the armchair, I grip the remote, the blue glare of the television flickering against my tired eyes as a news ticker scrolls the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

King Charles III’s words, “the law must take its course,” hang in the air like dust in the living room as I switch off the TV. I stand for a moment, facing the window, where the last of the light thins along the fence line.

the White House
shadowed against the sky
crow after crow ...

Valentine's Starlight Haiku

those three words uttered ...
our bodies nestle, listening
to Valentine's starlight

FYI: For more "love" poems, see  Special Feature: Selected Poems for Valentine's Day

Added:

my affair ends
with a tired face emoji
she used to say
the power of love begins
with the silence of words

Un/Knowing

my love grasps the thread
of her breath from the edge
of orgasm
she spins, spinning it
into a passion story

love after love
we exhaust each other –
in her heart
swirls something dark
in a space I cannot see

Threesome

simmering heat
every touch of her

you ask, I answer
last light of day

my body alone
night chill deepening

FYI: This [first] 2-line haiku sequence is written in response to the following:

After Dusk

asleep
the firefly
is fueling

sparks
however small
light lovers

our bodies
listen
to light

Listen to Light, 1980

Added: reading between the lives and writing between the lines, LXXXVI

shooting her husband
in the heart three times
the neighbour
said nothing... and yet
everything to each of us

FYI: This could be read as a sequl to my tanka below:

a winter fog
smothers the winding road
to her mother's house
the bruises on her face
say everything & nothing

surrounded
by rubble that was once his home
this Gazan man
flashes a defiant smile ...
his X post reads, Life still goes on

Added: Against the Drowning Noise of Other Words, LXXXVIII: "settler violence"

                                 |
a settler aims his gun | a child throws his rock

Shyness Tanka

her body
silhouetted by moonlight
between the blinds ...
she slowly strips off
all my shyness

Day and Night

A wedding gift haiku set for Frameless Sky's editor, Chrissi

lovers' trail
the flicker of your smile
as butterflies mate

steam in the shower
your body and mine entwine
into one

Bodies and Loneliness Tanka

leaves drifting
through an open window
onto the floor ...
our bodies entangled
with each other's loneliness

Burning Urge Kyoka

this burning urge
to feel my way all over you
up and down you ...
in sleep my roommate moaning
to his calendar nude
